CBDC

Central bank digital currency and programmable payments

Central Bank Digital Currency is a digital form of central bank money. “Programmable” is often attached to it, but the two aren't the same thing.

For a business, the useful idea is simple: a payment can be linked to a verified event — goods accepted, a milestone approved — with fewer manual handoffs and a clear record.

Programmable payments
Software decides when a payment runs; the money itself stays ordinary.
Programmable money
Rules attached to the money itself — a policy choice, not built into CBDC.
Real examples
Pay after accepted delivery, release funds by milestone, delivery versus payment.
